Elliot Carleton is a Phd student in Dr. Lau Gherardi's lab and a member of UC Berkeley's Energy and Resources Group. He is interested in leveraging improved land management practices and environmental policies to help mitigate global climate change and protect natural resources while simultaneously helping the world's most vulnerable communities adapt to already occurring climate impacts. His research interests are motivated by the time he spent working with the International Livestock Research Institute in Kenya, where he worked on projects related to pastoral land management and rangeland resilience.
He is currently working on a research project with Dr Gherardi at the Hopland Research and Extension Center to understand how different grazing intensities influence above- and below-ground carbon partitioning in California's annual grasslands. When he is not busy digging up soil cores or weighing roots in the lab, you can usually find Elliot running on one of Berkeley's many trails, going to a concert in San Francisco, or watching one of Seattle's sports teams lose yet another game.
